WRISTICONS presents you a really nice denim colored chronograph with cool square tonneau kind of shaped 70s case.
With a light blue dial and bezel and an ultra funky case profile, this Girard-Perregaux chronograph will get you into the 70s vibe
Girard-Perregaux isn't exactly known for its chronographs. Tourbillons? Sure. Sport watches with integrated bracelets? Absolutely. But chronographs? Other than a few deep-cut favorites (like the Olimpico), we'd be hard pressed to name many from the brand's 229 years of watchmaking history. But that's what makes this 1970s example so appealing to us, with its unconventional case construction with hooded lugs and a baby blue dial.
This model looks a lot like the Olympico models of Girard-Perregaux chronograph but it isn’t since it doesn’t have the Olympico text on the dial. But on the other hands back in the days all manufacturers used several different suppliers for movement parts dials bezels, hands etc. So therefore this could as well be an Olympico. Hard to say cause there is not that much information about Girard-Perregaux chronograph to find on the internet or in books.
This chronograph is in great condition for its age, with a strong case design and crisp edges; it appears to be unpolished. It features highly wearable dimensions, with a 38mm diameter and 15mm thickness that help it sit tall on the wrist with a definite presence. The light blue dial is accented by a concentric circular ring in grey that runs through the applied, faceted hour markers. The triple register layout is a traditional at three, six, and nine o'clock in white with black accents, and the movement inside is the manually wound Valjoux 7736, which is a variant of the legendary 7730 caliber with the addition of a 12-hour counter.
This GP is in overall great condition. The case is strong with scratches and the finish is still visible on the top of the case. The numbers on the caseback are all visible as well as the "stainless steel" engraving. The edges are still crisp, it appears to be unpolished. The blue dial is in great condition with light patina. The hands have developed patina. The lume on the dial and hands have aged to the same yellow color. The crown has a slight ding in it. The bezel is in good condition with scratches and wear throughout. The lume at 12 o'clock on the bezel is gone. The six o'clock sub-dial is, in fact, round like the others, even though it looks distorted from the crystal in our photos. The crystal has some scratches.
Notes: super cool 70s vintage Girard-Perregaux chronograph with an attractive denim dial, original hands and original bezel. Find me another one!
