Omega Constellation 14381-1-SC-1959 Rose gold/steel rail track dial non date
This is a rare opportunity to purchase a perfect example of a stainless steel and gold Omega Constellation with a very nice non date rail track dial. This particular configuration is really rare on a Constellation and it looks amazing!
In 1948 Omega introduced the Centenary, an automatic wristwatch chronometer to celebrate Omega’s one-hundredth anniversary. The original Centenary was produced in limited quantities (6000 in total, 2000 using the caliber 28.10mm movement and 4000 using the caliber 30.10mm). However, according to Omega, the Centenary was so successful that they started developing a successor that would be produced in large quantities and become a collection on its own.. The Constellations were introduced as a new line-up of watches with chronometer movements to be produced in series.
The Constellation was originally introduced in 1952 and quickly became a best-seller for Omega. Omega Constellation have always been a symbol of luxury. The Constellation has a high performance automatic movement combined with an elegant and a refined exterior. On the dial: the name Constellation, highlighted by an applied gold star. On the case back: the famous medallion featuring an observatory crowned by a constellation of eight stars, evoking the numerous exploits of Omega in world chronometer competition.
A specific 14381 -1-SC-1959 is a stellar all-original Omega Constellation Automatic chronometer from around 1959. It features stamped original patinated rail track dial, elegantly understated gold batons and hands. Its famous 551 caliber chronometer automatic movement which has been fully serviced and regulated. The 34mm case – stainless steel and capped in18ct rose gold – features the cupola of the Geneva Observatory on the back, crowned by eight stars. We’ve fitted a new brown crocodile strap.
A little history: described in a late 1950s advert as ‘For the man who already has a watch’, the Omega Constellation marque epitomizes luxurious precision and a golden era of watchmaking. The marque was launched in 1952 as a new family of automatic chronometer watches. Omega had just reset its own record for precision in 1951, and the eight stars on the Constellation case back celebrate the company’s substantial chronometric achievements at the world’s observatories over the previous two decades – including a clean sweep breaking the record for precision in every category in 1931. Constellations are known affectionately as ‘Connies’ to their loyal fans.
