WRIST ICONS shows you another extremely rare stainless steel Vacheron Constantin, reference 4241 restored by Vacheron Constantin in like new condition.
The Vacheron Constantin reference 4241 triple calendar was introduced in 1942. It is a beautiful watch with its calendar and sub seconds dial cased in a gorgeous stepped case with beautiful teardrop lugs
Vacheron Constantin embraced full calendar wrist watch quite early on (in 1929) but few models were made prior to the 40s. However the brand switched to turbo mode in the early 40s with the launch of the ref 4240 which with the subsequent variants became over time an icon.
Also launched in 1942 reference 4241 has the exact same indications as ref 4241 but with a slightly larger stepped case:35.5mm and tear drop lugs. The watch was made in yellow gold, rose gold and steel. A special version of this reference was also made with hooded bar lugs.
This Reference 4241 is the harder to find and slightly larger version of the iconic 4240, released at about the same time in the 1940s.
There is an interesting thread on watchprosite about the VC refrence 4241:
“In 1942, Vacheron Constantin introduced refrence 4240, a triple calendar, using caliber 455 . Then caliber 485, 495 were produced, with models 4240，4241, 4461, 4462, 4560 and 4623. During World War II, the production was actually scarce. During the 1950s and 1960s, the average annual output was about 5000-6000” as estimated on wathchprosite.
“the triple calendar vintage v&c made in 1942_1952? (mabe 1953) , how many about the total production of them? I guess it's less than 10% of the annual output, not more than 500 per year, maybe much less”.
They also make a very interesting comparison ‘…. to get a better understanding of the production figures, you have to look closely at the V&C Chronograph watches of that time.
Why? Because they have been in a very close price bracket.
And you should think about, if they would have been sold better, similar or even worse than the Chronographs.
I guess they sold almost similar in total, maybe a little less.
But it is also known that the lunar versions were by far more more popular than the standard calendar versions and the ref 4241 was sold less than the ref 4240.
Production figures of V&C ref 4178:
Cal 434: 231 pieces in yellow gold and 280 pieces in rose gold
Cal 492: 114 pieces in yellow gold and 108 pieces in rose gold
(this is not per year it is the total number over the complete manufacturing period)
