WRIST ICONS is proud to present you avery nice Omega Speedmaster Moonphase ST 345.0809. This particular omega Speedmaster Moonphase was produced on June 18, 1987 and delivered to the United Kingdom.
In 1985, Omega released the first Speedmaster with a Moonphase and a date. Although Moonphases had occurred in the Omega lineup prior to 1985 the Speedmaster Professional Moonphase 345.0809 was the first to be incorporated into the Speedmaster Professional line. The movement inside is a cal.866 (nowadays a caliber 1866 after an upgrade in the late 1990s), which is basically the caliber 861 movement with an add-on module for the moon phase and date complications.
This watch has a clean case back, only the Seamaster logo has been engraved as we know it from other Speedmaster Pro watches as well. There is no ‘First Watch Worn On The Moon’ or ‘NASA qualified’ text engraved in the caseback.
This model reference 345.0809 was delivered from late 1985 until 1988 and only an estimated 1300 pieces were made. This makes the Speedymoon a highly sought after reference. In 1986 they introduced an additional redesigned version called the Smoothline Chronograph for the German market.
The smoothline chronograph was cased in titanium with a flat sapphire crystal on a fully integrated bracelet TI345.0810 and also on a bi-metallic titanium and gold combination again an integrated bracelet TA345.0810.
Out of a total of 2000 movements the Smoothlines in Germany had a limited edition release of 400 titanium examples and 300 bi-metallic gold and titanium examples.
Of the 2000 in total there were only 1300 Speedymoons and it is further claimed that 15% were produced as strap-only model predominantly for Mexcio and some for Italy, leaving approximately 1100 in the configuration this site is devoted to.
As far as we known production of all models ceased by January 1989 [1]
