A rare expression of mid-century design, the Audemars Piguet reference 5173 WG combines an unusually shaped white gold case with a matching vertically engraved dial. The continuity of the engraving creates a distinctive interplay of light and texture, making this an exceptional example of Audemars Piguet's approach to case and dial design during the 1960s.
Produced circa 1967 and sold in 1971, the watch is powered by the manual-winding calibre K2001, with 18 jewels as specified on its original certificate of origin. The case design is attributed to Geneva-based case maker Ed Wenger.
Believed to be one of only two known examples in white gold, this watch survives in exceptionally untouched condition, close to new. It comes complete with its original Audemars Piguet box, certificate of origin, white gold buckle and original strap, which shows some wear but remains in very nice condition.
An unusual and highly collectible Audemars Piguet, distinguished by its rarity, originality and remarkable design.
