Design of the Cartier Ceinture watch

This 27mm square shaped case just oozes late 60s early 70s design. The case design of this Ceinture resembles a belt buckle. The Ceinture has a really beautiful organic cushion like squarish stepped case, which is both cool and masculine as well as feminine due to the rounded corners. If Austin powers would need a new watch this would be his pick! Groovey!!

The Louis Cartier Collection of 1973

This large Cartier Ceinture was introduced in 1973. That year saw the launch of the Louis Cartier collection. Twelve gold models with leather straps simultaneously hit the retailers’ shelves. Their designs were firmly rooted in the brand's tradition, as were most of their names - Tank Normale, Tank L.C. (Louis Cartier), Santos, Vendôme, Ceinture, Fabergé, Gondole, Ellipse, Cristallor, Coussin, Baignoire, Square. With the exception of the Baignoire, they were all available both in the men's and ladies size and some even in a Jumbo size(source The Museum Collection book, Marco Strazzi)

Size

To nowadays standard a 27mm size watch is very small but there are two things to consider. First it used to be very fashionable to wear a small sized watch. Secondly a square watch has a bigger wrist presence than a round watch. For this reason the ladies size (Petit Modèle-PM) for the Cartier Ceinture was 24mm and the Grand Modèle (GM) meant for the men was sized at 27mm.

Condition

This particular Cartier Ceinture has just undergone a full service at Cartier.

• Case-the case has been lightly polished. Caseback shows all the engravings and inscriptions. The watch has a new winding crown

• Dial-the watch has received a new  Cartier dial, during its most recent service since the older SWISS signed service dial had some stains.

• Hands- the watch has new blue steel hands.

• Bracelet- the watch comes one a new Cartier leather bracelet.

Overall this watch is in pristine condition for its age.
