Look at the texture on that dial!! This is the large 34mm Cartier Tortue made for the Collection Privée Cartier Paris circa 2005-6. This size makes it wearable for men and women. What a stunning watch, It’s so refined!!
Between 1998 and 2008 Cartier produced the "Collection Privée", a celebration of the famous maison's designs over the years. Cartier worked with Jaeger-LeCoultre, Frédéric Piguet, Piaget, Girard-Perregaux, APRP Renaud et Papi, and others to get – or create – the best movements available for these watches. The majority of the CPCP timepieces were released in slightly bigger cases than Cartier was known for to make them more masculine and wearable in the modern age, which at that time was dominated by larger case sizes. Beautiful details from the late 1920s came back to highlight the feel of the collection: the rosette in the middle of the dial, the word “Paris” underneath the brand name, and subtle engravings on the back all played their parts. These details were highly appreciated by collectors.
Some of these main design features were the refined shaped crystals (curved and or faceted) and the reissue of a vintage-style buckle, which was developed originally by Louis Cartier and Edmond Jaeger for the Santos Dumont in 1913.
Some of the CPCP models were released in limited editions of just 100 pieces, while other non-limited watches in runs of no more than 200 to 250 pieces. This is also one of the reasons why so few of these Collection Privée Cartier Paris models are seen today at auctions.
Read more about CPCP in the is excellent article of George Cramer on Revolution.
The case of this particular Tortue design is beautiful. The shape of the Tortue case was created in 1912 and was actually Cartier’s third watch model (after Santos and tonneau). The silver Cartier Paris signed dial has a really nice guilloché pattern that looks like a rose with an inner minute rail track. The dial has is completed with its blue steel, moon style Breguet hands. And the watch has a really nice finished movement (Cartier calibre 437MC) made by Piaget visible through a sapphire glass display case back. The watch case is strapped on a Cartier alligator leather bracelet with a 18kt golden Cartier signed folding clasp.
The watch movement has been checked by our watchmaker. It is running very good and keeps time perfectly.
Overall, the exceptional finishing of the Cartier Tortue CPCP is noteworthy, both for its design and execution.
As with all of our pre-owned watches this watch comes with a full 12 month warranty with ourselves that will be invoked from the day of purchase.
Viewings can be arranged at our office by appointment.
