Heuer Autavia 1163 White Orange Boy
This Heuer Autavia reference 1163 with a really rare white dial with tropical brown turning sub dials is one of the rarest Heuer Autavias out there.
There are a lot of nice nicknames for some of the variations of this reference. The Siffert with the blue accents, the Orange Boy with the black dial, the Viceroy, named after the cigarette company and the Derek Bell with ridged hour markers. Among these the White Orange Boy is one of the rarest.
Some history
In 1969 Heuer, Breitling and Hamilton were the first to bring the automatic chronograph to the market. These were the Chronomatic watches with the Caliber 11. Because of the rush to be first to market with Heuers partners this groundbreaking movement needed some improvements shortly after release and in 1970 the calibre 11i was released fine tuning the movement.
The calibre 12 movement improved further on the 11i and was introduced during the 1133 Monacos and 1163 Autavia ‘s lifecycle in 1971. The main improvements were strengthening of some key parts and a faster beat rate from 19800 VPH to 21600 VPH.
This particular 1163 reference was produced in 1971. The case number is 2436**.
Besides the lovely dial this watch has a really great case. The hands have the great orange Viceroy style, which is the preferred style over the later second style hands
