SOLD-Heuer Autavia 45, Second Execution Case, Third Execution Dial-“Andretti”

WRIST ICONS brings you a really nice great example of the Heuer Andretti. What sets this one apart from the other Andretti’s available on the market is the really great original condition. It’s almost flawless.

The Heuer Andretti is considered within the Heuer community as one of the most important references to collect. This watch has been worn by the famous racing driver Mario Andretti during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

One can recognize the third execution dial by its smaller registers, with applied steel markers; polished steel hands, with luminous inserts. The bezel is narrower than the first execution screw-back Autavia and the teeth of the bezel are cut on diagonals, rather than on perpendiculars. On the revolving black bezel, you can see a 12-hour scale. The model was also available under ref. 3646 T, with tachometer scale, and under ref . 3646 M, with 60 minutes scale

The watch is powered by Valjoux caliber 92, which is  a hand-winding chronograph movement with an oscillating pinion for engagement, as patented by Heuer. Unusually for Valjoux, it has 7 columns on the wheel used to operate the chronograph function, as on the predecessor Valjoux 77. The dial features a 30 or 45 minute chronograph register at 3:00 and small seconds at 9:00.

• Case: polished round-shaped stainless steel case with a three-body construction: a steel case, a snap on interchangeable black graduated bi-directional revolving hour (H) bezel with a good sharp resistance and an affirmative "Click", a screwed-down case back. The engravings on the outside of the caseback are very clearly visibile. The inside of the caseback is  signed with HEUER, LEONIDAS SA SSTAINLESS STEEL . The outside of the caseback is signed with HEUER AUTAVIA at the center and at edges -STAINLESS STEEL CHRNOGRAPH-WATERPROOOF- GUARANTEED 330 FT UNDER WATER. The case is finished with straight polished lugs, and round tall chronograph buttons (4.40 mm diameter) and a stainless steel Heuer signed winding crown.

• Dial: black dial with HEUER logo and AUTAVIA written above the logo. The dial has applied steel baton indexes with luminous accents for the hours which have tritium. There are two subsidiary guilloche silvered registers for the constant second at 9 and the 45 minute chronograph counter at three which contrast to the matte black main dial. At the border of the dial there is a scale consisting of white 5 minute  markers, seconds markers and 1/5th seconds divisions. The dial has orange  hands with tritium material in the center.
• Movement: manual  wind movement caliber Valjoux 92, the mechanical movement is rhodium plated,  has 17 jewels, a straight line lever escapement, monometallic balance, shock absorber, self-compensating blued steel, flat balance spring, column wheel chronograph. It beats with a frequency of 18000 amplitude/hour and has power reserve of 39 hours.
