Origins of the Buckley dial

The Rolex Buckley dial are named after an American watch dealer named John Buckley also known from his Instagram handle @tuscanyrose. He was the first one to describe the Rolex Datejust dials with the painted Roman numerals instead of applied Roman numerals. These dials have been made in various colors of which most of them are white. The rare variations are the black and blue ones.

The Buckley dial is seen on vintage Datejust models, including references 1601, 1603, 16014, and 16030.

During the time the Buckley dials were in production, they were not very popular, which means that today, there aren’t very many around. John Buckley was a proponent of the dials, although not very popular at the time, and therefore the watch community named these dials after him. In the early 2000's there was a renewed interest in the dials because collectors enjoy obtaining rare models that are also handsome and elegant. Buckley style dials can also be found on Oysterquartz models, Day-Date watches and even Tudor references.

Condition

This stunning example of the Rolex Datejust 1601 reference is in really good vintage condition. It has all the good parts what makes this a great looking vintage piece. The dial has a small scratch on the paint of the Roman numeral at V o’clock.

Notes: Absolutely stunning example of a super desirable Rolex Datejust 1601  with an attractive blue Buckley dial, original hands and original folded bracelet. Very hard to find these in this condition.

Overall, the Rolex Datejust 1601  is noteworthy, both for its design and execution. This Datejust is remarkably well preserved.
