SOLD-Rolex Day Date 1803 pie-pan dial with riveted Oyster bracelet

If we are talking about icons of watchmaking one cannot forget the Rolex Preident Day Date. The Rolex Day-Date was released in 1956. The Rolex Day-date was the first watch to have an Day and date complication. On the top of the dial, a date aperture; and at three o’clock, a date display, complete with the classic Rolex cyclops. The Day Date was available in white gold, yellow gold, rose gold and platinum.

In the late 50s and 60s Rolex advertised the Oyster Day Date watch as a watch worn by the leaders of the world. They marketed in advertisements these watches with slogans like: “Men who guide the destinies of the world wear Rolex watches”. Due to this marketing strategy it became the watch to wear if you would have made it.  It looked amazing. It was a very expensive watch, and the case and bracelet were completely made out of gold.

Although he wasn’t the first president to own a Day-Date, Lyndon B. Johnson was undoubtedly the first world leader to contribute to the its reputation as the watch of presidents and world leaders.

This example is a really nice looking reference 1803. This caliber is the non quick set version. It has  a riveted Oyster bracelet, this is the feature that really sets this watch apart from the rest. It gives the watch a very warm and cool attitude. In production since 1956, the Day-Date is one of the most recognizable Rolex watches ever made. With its elegant, simple dial layout with decimal minute track and fluted bezel, the reference 1803 is a favorite of Wrist Icons and of past U.S. Presidents. In addition to being a cultural symbol of the watch world, this Day-Date is complemented by a period-correct riveted bracelet, making it even more desirable. This example has a English date disc..

Our Day-Date 1803  from 1972 is put together by an 18K yellow gold oyster rivet band, which is an incredibly rare detail as Day-Dates were sold with jubilee bands, very select few were sold with gold oyster rivets. The bracelet is Rolex number 1803 Ref. No. 76. It has a yellow gold Color and is made out of 18kt solid gold. It is an early deployment 20mm riveted bracelet, marked: "76" on both end pieces. The deployment clasp is marked: "PATENTED & REGISTERED SWISS MADE", "ROLEX SA 750". This is an original Rolex riveted linked deployment bracelet by Rolex. The Rolex riveted linked design pre-dates the current screw down links build after 1980. This example is a Swiss made bracelet with 10 rivets links and 19 mm end-links. It was originally also attached 18kt Rolex Daytona 6263 & Oyster Perpetual 1500 model.
